CLEAN CITY CLARA
In conjunction with the Charleston Clean City Commission , the Backporch Storytellers of Charleston, SC is presenting the story of Clara the Clean City Pelican at numerous local schools, promoting keeping our city clean, by not littering, picking up trash, recycling, as well as promoting protection of wildlife from the ravages of pollution.
We are utilizing teacher cadets from local schools to dress up as "Clara", a pelican that was hurt during Hurricane Hugo, but was rescued and nursed to health by a little boy. As the pelican recovers from its injuries, it decides to clean up trash in the rivers as well as on the land, and enlists the help of school children to clean up the environment for animals and for themselves.
